And I certainly agree - the political left has, over the decades, successfully persuaded the majority of Americans to support equality for women, ethnic & religious minorities, and LGBTs, but now their victories have stalled because they have no idea how to make progress on class/poverty issues and materially improve the lives of working people. So in order to maintain their status as "the party of equality," they reframe (potentially winnable) class issues as identity ones to pay lip service to inequality without having to actually address it.
